The Textile Department already has the following equipment and installations available for guests:
Weaving workshop (First floor)
The workshop has a variety of handlooms varying in sizes, models, and ethnic cultural backgrounds. Both old and new, and ranging from simple rigid heddle table looms to 6-heddle floor looms, all the looms are intact and operational. Workshop participants are supplied with materials and have complete access to all facilities within the workshop. We welcome artists who have prior knowledge in relevant fields and students to stay in the Art Centre and use our equipment for research projects and/or educational purposes.
Library (Second Floor)
The library contains hundreds of books and magazines dedicated to the historical, technical, and cultural aspects of textile work, especially Chinese textiles. Visitors may use a computer to access the collection database, allowing them to browse through photographs and information and pick out suitable items for specific projects, all while preventing damage caused by exposure to light, dust, and handling. The library is for members only; please be sure to make an appointment beforehand.
Collection Storehouse and Archive (Second Floor)
The textile archive was made from a diligent collection that began more than 20 years ago. At present, the archive has over 5000 items. The archive includes items from many regions of China and encompasses a number of minority groups, each with their own of techniques, materials, forms, and functions, dating from the Qing dynasty to present day.
The Centre provides advanced facilities for the long-term preservation of fragile works of art, as well as study and research facilities for both staff and visitors. It includes onsite access to the collection database, study space for the examination of the textiles themselves, and a reference library for the historical, technical, and cultural study of textiles.
