BISS Puxi’s Craft-Making Experience of Butter Sculpture at the Jinze Art Center
For devout Buddhists in the Tibetan region, butter sculptures reflect the ultimate reverence for Buddha.
A group of Forty-four students from BISS Puxi visited a gallery display of thangkas and butter sculptures at the Jinze Art Center. After an introduction to the cultural significance underlying Buddhist butter sculptures, the group set about producing the sculptures themselves.
Despite the delicate complexity of butter sculpting, the students showed great confidence, sharing delightful insights and exchanging ideas during this craft-making workshop.
After a full day at Jinze, the students learnt not only the process of butter sculpture creation, but even more importantly, the craft’s intricate connection to beliefs and its reflection of devoutness to art.
